Inside Mirdif City Centre in Dubai, Toplum Restaurant serves sophisticated and stylish Mediterranean food in an elegant environment. Designed by XO Atelier, the Toplum interiors create an exquisite setting in which to experience thoughtful cuisine. An inspired series of textures and forms is rendered in a muted palette of warm colors. The project was recognized as Best Global Restaurant 2020 by the International Hotel & Property Awards, as well as the highly commended Best Use of Lighting 2020 by the CID Awards.
XO Atelier chose a combination of SkLO Balance 1.0 Pendants and Balance 2.0 Pendants as key elements of the Toplum lighting design. Chosen for their dynamic forms, the pendants of the Balance Series subtly reaffirm the form of the arch, which is an important visual element of the Toplum design and branding.
The symmetry of the Balance 2.0 Pendant is skillfully used here to contrast with the asymmetry of the Balance 1.0 Pendant. The lights are arranged in long rows that align with the seating layout of the graceful dining room, and the changes in symmetry skillfully designate areas of cross-circulation. The uniform palette of white dipped glass diffusers and brushed brass hardware finish allows the Balance Pendants to elevate the sophisticated material palette.
