The design team of Studio BBA and Banks Landl have produced some of the San Francisco Bay Area’s quintessential hospitality spaces. They were hired to create a special home for Brucato Amaro, a craft spirit brand producing amaros that express the unique landscapes of California such as the coastal redwood forests, the oak savannahs and the rolling orchards of the central valleys, all inspired by the classic Italian style.

The result is a reimagined urban multi-story historical building that houses not only the brand’s production facilities but also a vibrant food and beverage service that goes far beyond simple amaro tasting. The design team chose SkLO for the distinctive decorative lighting language of the lively spaces that make up Brucato Amaro.

The feature lighting design language is a complex randomized series of compositions of SkLO Balance 1.0 Pendants and Balance 2.0 Pendants. The designers painstakingly located each individual fixture and determined each fixture’s length and orientation, mixing the symmetry of the Balance 2.0 with the asymmetry of the Balance 1.0.

The result is a compelling demonstration of skilled design. SkLO pendants cascade and flow up and down the building’s front spaces, moving from airy two-story rooms to open stairwells and subtly drawing customers in and guiding them along their path.

Upstairs in the more subdued dining area, the lighting becomes more subtle. Here, a pair of Drape 1.09 Arm Sconces anchor each end of a long L-shaped banquette.

All the lights share a palette of white dipped glass diffusers, brushed brass hardware and black fabric-wrapped cord. The palette works with the warm tones of the interior palette while giving a classic feel alongside the exposed structure and historic elements such as exposed masonry and concrete.
