About Drape Skirt 18 Chandelier
Glass shaped by hand
The glass spheres of the Drape Skirt 18 Chandelier are formed by hand, allowing them to be slightly imperfect to express their handmade origins. The “dipped” glass options feature an irregular, open mouth, created by double-dipping the piece into the molten glass crucible, followed by breaking the piece from the pipe and fire-polishing the opening – a purposeful expression of craft and the act of glassblowing. The “textured” glass diffusers have no opening. Their surface is frosted and features a subtle pattern of lines etched into the glass for a moody and classic look.
Airy and minimal
Inspired by a pair of large custom chandeliers commissioned by SkLO for a project in the California Napa Valley, the Drape Skirt 18 Chandelier is a large chandelier that still feels airy. Decorative, yet very modern and minimal. Suspended and supported entirely on its fabric-wrapped electrical cords, the ability to customize its composition by changing the location of the skirts and their ring along the length of the fixture, as well as the lengths of the individual pendants make it a light with infinite variations.
The possibilities of simplicity
The Drape collection is an investigation into the potential behind the idea of a simple cord-suspended glass pendant that displays the quality and variation of SkLO handblown glass. It begins, necessarily, with the basic Drape Pendant itself. But from there, minimal additions are made – opportunities to enhance the structure, scale, and design of the diverse series comprising the Drape collection, including the Drape Circle, Drape Arm, Drape Skirt, and many more.
